It's always rewarding as a parent when one of your children show signs of intelligent life! =) Ok, my kids are pretty dang smart, heck they do better in school on their worst days then I ever did on my best. But, sometimes they do things that make you go, HUH?!?!? Take for instance, kiddo #4, who a year or so ago, went to put some ramen noodles that he didn't finish in the toilet. (We don't have a garbage disposal, and it makes a GIANT mess when they put stuff like that in the garbage can, so they dispose of soggy left over food in the toilet.) Anywho, he dumped his noodles in the toilet, and in the process the spoon he'd used also went in. (Mind you it wasn't an everyday, who will notice it missing type spoon. It was one of Steven's late grandmothers spoons that we had gotten.) Ok, so instead of reaching in (he didn't want to put his hand in the toilet) and retrieving said spoon, he figured the best coarse of action and of course the least likely to land him in trouble was to flush the poor spoon along with all the noodles. The first time not much went down, so he figured he'd flush again, at which point the poor spoon set sail on the sewer express. So things are all great now, the spoon's gone, his hands are clean, and no one's the wiser. Well, at least until everything starts clogging in the toilet. We can't figure why the toilet isn't working, we thought maybe a sock, from the dirty laundry which sits next to the toilet found it's way down the drain. So after many plungings and other failed drain clearing attempts, Steven took the toilet off (BIG GROSS!!!). After some extensive searching, he noticed a spoon stuck in the bend of the toilet. That puppy was not going to move. It was wedged tighter than an elephant in a telephone booth.

Nothing was working at getting that silly spoon out of that tight spot. Well, nothing until the porcelain cracked and the toilet was useless and we took it outside and cracked that puppy open like a stinky pinata. We retrieved the spoon, we had to save it for scrapbook memento, of course. Next came the interrogation round. Who flushed the spoon??? The truth finally came out, and tears and yelling ensued. So, now to make this long story even longer, today, that same kiddo #4 came to me and said, "Mom, my glasses fell in the toilet." (????HOW????) My response was, "ok, so get them out and wash them off." And he did!!!!! I'm not only happy about this because he's learning, but because the glasses are a week old today! See we can learn from past mistakes!!!!! (Now if I would only follow his example!!!! =P)
Happy learning!
I would agree that it is always rewarding when the children show signs of intelligent life. I loved this post!
